The application was successfully awarded grant funding by the TSB of £248k for a £551k total project
A private development company – Mole Solutions Limited – focused exclusively on the development of environmentally friendly cost effective freight pipeline networks, approached TBAT innovation to aid them in applying for a TSB Smart grant. The grant was geared towards the development of a prototype, stemming from an innovative concept.
Freight pipelines offer a potential revolution in freight transport. The major freight transport modes of road and rail, present high capital and operating costs, significant socio-environmental impacts and, in the case of the dominant freight mode road, a major contributor to the problems caused by congestion. By taking a fresh look at some of the major intrinsic problems an innovative, elegant solution was established; freight pipelines.
Need for funding
Feedback from industry indicated that in order for the freight pipeline concept to be taken seriously a representative demonstrator was required. The support of the TSB was central to the development of a prototype that could demonstrate operation of the pipeline at scale. Funding enabled the concept to be developed over a short period into a physical entity that would give confidence and commercial viability, to both existing and future potential stakeholders.
TBAT visited the company and met with the management team to discuss and evaluate the strength and novelty of the project. TBAT worked with the company to better define and position the proposition for grant funding. Following the meeting, TBAT was able to use the information supplied alongside independent research and regular communication with the team to complete the application form, draw up appendices and structure the project plan. Following a final review with the client the application was submitted prior to the deadline date.
