Throughout my education, I always had a keen interest in science. This led to me studying for my degrees in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences, and my first job after graduating was in a pathology laboratory. My career path then moved onto accountancy, training with PwC in Birmingham before moving into industry as a financial accountant, and more recently running my own accountancy practise. However, with my science background, I never lost my interest in hearing about new scientific developments.
Working as TBAT’s accountant I feel that I have the best of both worlds – working with innovative R&D clients whilst utilising my accountancy skills. My role is to help on the financial side of R&D tax claims, providing support with the accounting and tax implications.
Outside of work I volunteer as a school governor. This can sometimes create a tricky balance between supporting the school to achieve the highest possible standards, and not embarrassing my daughters by being seen in their school attending meetings! The rest of my time is filled with the joys of family life, we are members of a local zoo and frequently visit to see what the animals are up to!
